About the UKTIA

About the Association

The UK Travel Insurance Association (UKTIA) is the leading trade body representing the UK travel insurance sector. We bring together insurers, intermediaries, assistance providers, and service specialists to promote high standards, collaboration, and trust across the industry.

Our purpose is simple: to ensure travellers can access clear, fair, and reliable insurance, and feel supported wherever they go. By setting best practice, encouraging transparency, and facilitating collaboration, we help strengthen confidence in travel insurance across the UK and beyond.

Our Role in the Industry

UKTIA acts as a collective voice for the travel insurance community. Our members represent a significant proportion of UK travel insurance activity, ranging from major providers to specialist firms.

We:

  • Promote best practice and professional standards
  • Support engagement with regulators and industry bodies
  • Provide a platform for collaboration on key issues
  • Share knowledge, insight, and market developments
  • Represent the sector at industry events and conferences

Through regular meetings, working groups, we ensure the industry remains aligned, informed, and forward-looking.

Our History

UKTIA was originally formed in 1989 as a forum for travel insurance intermediaries to share knowledge and discuss market trends.

In the early 1990s, this evolved into a formal non-profit organisation, the Association of Travel Insurance Intermediaries (ATII). Over time, as the industry expanded and customer behaviour shifted, membership broadened to include insurers, assistance providers, and other key stakeholders.

In 2025, the association rebranded as the UK Travel Insurance Association (UKTIA), reflecting its wider role representing the full travel insurance ecosystem.

A Not-for-Profit Organisation

UKTIA operates as a non-profit organisation, meaning our focus is on advancing the industry and supporting consumers rather than generating profit.

All activity is directed toward:

  • Improving customer outcomes
  • Raising industry standards
  • Supporting members through shared knowledge and collaboration
  • Contributing positively to the wider travel and insurance ecosystem

Our structure ensures that decisions are made in the best interests of the industry and the travelling public.

Charity & Social Impact

As part of our commitment to responsible industry leadership, UKTIA actively supports charitable initiatives and social causes.

We are proud to support Kids Cancer Charity, contributing donations throughout the year to help fund vital services for children and families affected by cancer.

Our Commitment

Beyond financial contributions, our approach to social impact includes:

  • Raising awareness of charitable causes across our membership
  • Encouraging member participation in fundraising and initiatives
  • Supporting community and wellbeing-focused activities
  • Embedding responsible practices within the travel insurance sector

We believe that as an industry body, we have a responsibility not only to customers and members, but also to the wider community.

Governance & Committees

UKTIA is governed by an Executive Committee supported by working groups that focus on key industry topics such as regulation, taxation, and market developments.

These committees ensure that UKTIA remains responsive, relevant, and representative of its members.
